107 Contenitore di PET per alimenti
Amcor PET Packaging Europe/Asia (già Schmalbach-Lubeca PET Containers) ha realizzato un nuovo contenitore di PET da 250 ml per salsa di pomodoro. Unico nel suo genere in Europa, è in grado di sostenere procedimenti di riempimento a caldo fino a 92 °C nonché la pastorizzazione fino a 750 °C. Sviluppato e sottoposto a test presso il "Centre of Excellence" Amcor PET Packaging di Brecht (Belgio), questo contenitore è stato prodotto utilizzando una preforma standard, pesa 35 g e presenta una base e un collo da 43 mm dal finish cristallizzato. Il nuovo packaging della Amcor è stato realizzato per soffiaggio "heat set", a velocità produttive di 8.500 bott/h per stampo.

PET food containers
Amcor PET Packaging Europe/Asia (formerly Schmalbach-Lubeck PET Containers) has created a new 250 ml PET container for tomato sauce. Unique in its kind in Europe, it is capable of sustaining hot filling procedures up to 92 °C as well as pasteurization up to 750 °C. Developed and tested at the Amcor PET Packaging “Centre of Excellence”, Brecht (Belgium), this container has been produced using a standard preform, it weighs 35 g and has a 43 mm crystallised finish base and neck. The new Amcor packaging has been created for a “heat set” blowing at production speeds of 8.500 bottles/h per mould.

108 Catalizzatori al cromo
Basell ha lanciato una nuova gamma di catalizzatori al cromo per la produzione di polietilene ad alta densità (HDPE) attraverso un ampio ventaglio di processi HDPE. Questi catalizzatori, commercializzati con il nome Avant C, sono subito disponibili e possono essere impiegati per trattamenti in fase gassosa o soluzione acquosa. Sono inoltre in grado di produrre omopolimeri di etilene, oltre a copolimeri di etilene e alfa-olefine. Le resine prodotte con questi catalizzatori al cromo mostrano una distribuzione da medio ad alta del peso molecolare, e sono disponibili per applicazioni come blow moulding, estrusione di tubi e di film. I nuovi catalizzatori al cromo ampliano la gamma di catalizzatori commercializzati da Basell; questi sistemi comprendono anche: Avant ZN - Ziegler-Natta catalizzatori per polipropilene; Avant Z - Ziegler catalizzatori per polietilene; Avant M - catalizzatori metallocene per polietilene.

Chromium catalysts
Basell has launched a new range of chromium catalysts for the production of high density polyethylene (HDPE) through a wide range of HDPE processes.
These catalysts, marketed under the trade name Avant C, are immediately available and can be utilised in gas phase or slurry processes. They are capable of producing homopolymers of ethylene as well as copolymers of ethylene and alpha-olefins. Resins produced with these chromium catalysts exhibit a medium to broad molecular weight distribution and are suitable for such applications as blow moulding, pipe extrusion and film. The new chromium catalysts extend the range of catalysts marketed by Basell. These advanced catalyst systems also include: Avant ZN - Ziegler-Natta catalysts for polypropylene; Avant Z - Ziegler catalysts for polyethylene; Avant M - metallocene catalysts for polypropylene.

109 Tamper evident, ma facile da aprire
Crown Cork & Seal ha messo a punto un sistema di chiusura, che combina le prestazioni del metallo con quelle della plastica, in grado di aumentare le proprietà barriera, facilitare l’apertura ed essere impiegato nei diversi processi di riempimento. Ideal Closure è infatti costituito da un disco metallico, con proprietà barriera, e da un bordo di plastica che risulta semplice da aprire e allo stesso tempo tamper evident. La superficie di questo tappo semplifica le operazioni di apertura (il movimento di torsione è inferiore del 25% rispetto a quello delle chiusure standard), quindi anche i bambini e gli anziani possono aprire i contenitori con facilità: basta rompere l’anello esterno di protezione e sollevare il sigillo. Il sistema brevettato Deep Channel Insert protegge la zona di chiusura dalla trasmissione di ossigeno, riducendone l’ingresso di oltre il 50%. La shelf life, inoltre, è ulteriormente incrementata dal Plastisol Oxygen Scavenging, un composto inserito nel tappo in modo tale da catturare l’ossigeno e eliminarlo dalla confezione.

Tamper evident, but easy to open
Crown Cork & Seal announced a closure technology that combines the characteristics of metal and plastic to offer increased barrier performance, accommodate easier opening and support multiple filling processes. Ideal Closure is a hybrid of a metal disk, containing the elements that hold the barrier properties, and a plastic rim which supports tamper evidence and easy opening. The easy opening Ideal Closure features an increased surface area for consumers to grip and twist. Opening requires 25% less removal torque than standard closures, enabling seniors and children to open containers with ease: its sequential opening process breaks the closure's outside band and then lifts the insert prior to releasing the vacuum. The Ideal closure's patented Deep Channel Insert guards sealing areas from oxygen transmission. The new technology reduces oxygen ingression by over 50%. Shelf life is further enhanced with Crown's Oxygen Scavenging Plastisol, a compound inside the channel liner that captures oxygen and disperses it away from the product.

111 Guarnizione traspirante per chiusure
W L Gore & Associates (Cavaion Veronese, VR) ha sviluppato un sistema di tenuta, denominato Gore Liner, per compensare la pressione o depressione che si può generare all’interno di contenitori plastici di prodotti chimici a causa del cambiamento di temperatura o altitudine, o per lo sviluppo di gas come i perossidi, acido peracetico e candeggine, da parte di prodotti particolarmente critici. La compensazione della pressione all'interno del contenitore evita problemi di rigonfiamento, collassamento e rottura dei contenitori. Particolarmente interessante per l'industria chimica, farmaceutica e alimentare, Gore Liner è un sistema di sfiato che permette ai contenitori di “respirare”, prevenendo, allo stesso tempo, perdite e contaminazioni. È realizzato con una guarnizione di PE, che garantisce la tenuta ottimale tra il collo del contenitore e il tappo, su cui è applicata una membrana microporosa di PTFE espanso. Questa consente ai gas di uscire, senza provocare perdite di liquido.

Transpirant gasket for closures
W L Gore & Associates (Cavaion Veronese, VR) has developed an air-tight system, called Gore Liner, to compensate the pressure or vacuum that can be generated inside plastic containers by chemical products due to change of temperature or altitude, or for the development of gases such as peroxide, peracetic acid or bleach, by some particularly critical products. The compensation of the pressure inside the container avoids problems of swelling, collapse or breakage of the containers. Particularly interesting for the chemical, pharmaceutical and food industries, Gore Liner is a ventiduct system that allows the container to “breathe”, at the same time avoiding loss and contamination. It is made with a PE gasket, that guarantees the optimum airtightness between the neck of the container and the top, to which a PTFE foam microporous membrane is added. This enables the gas to exit without causing loss of liquids.

Infine, poiché queste etichette non richiedono l’impiego di adesivi, rendono più economico ed efficiente il processo di riciclo delle bottiglie.

Stretch-sleeves for bottles
Si & Si Company, a Yugoslavian soft drinks and spirits producer, has chosen stretch-sleeve labels by ITW to maintain the 'top-league' level of bottle presentation needed for its “premium” soft-drinks that it makes and markets under licence from Sinalco International of Germany.
Si & Si, in fact, needed an innovative design that would ensure it obtained high visibility and shelf recognition; thus it turned to ITW Auto-Sleeve's glue-free polyethylene stretch-sleeves labels.
The move has resulted in a crisp design that exploits stretch sleeves' features to striking effect but also retains the distinctive features of Sinalco's identity.
Si & Si has made subtle 'no label' use of the transparency of the polyethylene, of its natural high-gloss finish and the vivid reproduction of color it provides. Finally, since these labels are glue-free, they make bottle recycling process more cost-efficient.
