1014 Film laccati cavitati
Dopo il felice lancio dei suoi primi film laccati e cavitati, Surface Specialties (UCB Films) ha ampliato la propria gamma con Propafilm ROC e Propafilm FOC. Il primo è un film cavitato bianco di polipropilene biorientato, laccato acrilico su entrambele facce. Propafilm ROC è ideale per il confezionamento form-fill-seal di prodotti da forno, biscotti e dolciumi che necessitano di protezione dall’umidità e dalla contaminazione dell’aroma. L’eccezionale opacità rende inoltre questo film ideale per il sovrincarto di pacchi. Il secondo è Propafilm FOC, laccato su un lato di acrilico e sull’altro di un materiale brevettato a saldatura rapida. Ciò rende il film particolarmente adatto per le confezionatrici orizzontali. Questo film si distingue per la bassa temperatura di saldatura, nonché per le buone proprietà barriera al vapore acqueo e agli aromi.

Lacquered, cavitated film
After the successful launch of its first lacquered and cavitated films, Surface Specialties (UCB Films) has extended its range with Propafilm ROC and Propafilm FOC.
The first is a white cavitated film of bi-orientated polypropylene, acrylic lacquered on both sides. Propafilm ROC is ideal for form-fill-seal packaging of oven baked products, biscuits and confectionery which require protection from the damp and aroma contamination. Its exceptional opacity also makes this film ideal for external packaging.
The second is Propafilm FOC, lacquered on one side with acrylic and on the other with a patented material for rapid welding. This makes the film particularly suitable for horizontal packaging machines. This film is distinguished by its low welding temperature as well as providing good protection against water vapour and aroma contamination.

1015 Confezione per nuovi snack
La tedesca Langnese-Iglo (Unilever Group) ha lanciato di recente sul mercato tedesco un nuovo snack di piccole dimensioni (pesa solo 115 g) chiamato Micro-Baguette. Il progetto di confezionamento di questo nuovo prodotto, portato avanti dall’azienda in collaborazione con Stora Enso e altri partner, ha puntato a sviluppare un imballaggio che fosse in grado di distinguersi, attirare l’attenzione e garantire al cliente la fragranza dello snack. La confezione, che può essere riscaldata , è stata realizzata con cartoncino Trayforma, ideale per applicazioni che richiedono ottima formabilità, resistenza e capacità di sopportare temperature comprese fra -40 e +230 °C. Le pareti interne del vassoio di cartoncino sono rivestite con una pellicola ricettiva con funzione di riscaldare rapidamente il prodotto, mantenendolo croccante e sicuro dal punto di vista alimentare.

New snack pack
The German concern Langnese-Iglo (Unilever Group) has recently launched on the German market a new smallscale snack (it weighs a mere 115g) called Micro-Baguette. The packing project of this new product, developed by the company in cooperation with Stora Enso and other partners, has aimed at devising a packaging capable of standing out, drawing attention while guaranteeing the snack’s fragrance to the customer. The pack, that can be heated, has been made with Trayforma card, ideal for applications that require great formability, sturdiness and capacity to stand up to temperatures between -40 e +230 °C. The inner walls of the card tray are covered with receptive film to rapidly heat up the product, making it crisp as well as safe for consumption.

1016 Capsule twist-off
La tedesca Amcor White Cap, nota per la produzione di chiusure twist-off “a pressione” Press-On Twist-Off® caratterizzate da un’ottima tenuta, facilità di apertura, sistema di chiusura tamper evident e buona stampabilità, ha messo a punto una nuova capsula in banda stagnata. Si tratta di 51 PTU, un tappo twist-off “a pressione”, di diametro 51 mm, prodotto con un mastice universale per contenitori di vetro. Grazie all’impiego di questo mastice, la capsula combina le caratteristiche tecniche di due tipi di chiusure, che in precedenza erano utilizzate per due differenti tipi di processo (sterilizzazione e pastorizzazione). I vantaggi sono notevoli, dato che questa soluzione consente di utilizzare un’unica capsula (la 51PTU) sia per la sterilizzazione e la pastorizzazione sia per il riempimento a caldo. Ma non meno importante è l’ottimizzazione della produzione dato che, utilizzando un’unica chiusura, non è più necessario effettuare il cambio formato delle capsule.

Twist-off closures
Amcor White Cap is renowned for its Press-On Twist-Off® (PT) closures, which offer many outstanding features including excellent sealing characteristics, ease of opening, tamper evident button closure system, excellent print possibilities.
Now the company has launched a modified 51mm Press-On Twist-Off tinplate cap with universal compound for glass containers - the 51 PTU. The major advantage of the new closure is that by virtue of the universal compound it combines the technical features of two closures that were previously used for two different process conditions, sterilisation and pasteurisation into one single cap, suitable for both processes. There is now one closure for all three heat treatment processes - sterilisation, pasteurisation and hot-fill. More efficient storekeeping is possible at the customer’s plant, by virtue of using only one cap; most importantly, more efficient production is possible because a new single closure obviates the need for cap changeovers.

1017 Contenitori dal tocco morbido
Beiersdorf, produttore a livello mondiale di cosmetici e articoli per la cura della persona, ha scelto il termoplastico vulcanizzato TVP Santoprene della Advanced Elastomer Systems per l’erogatore di schiuma da barba e dei prodotti in gel a marchio Nivea. L’erogatore, prodotto utilizzando un sistema di stampaggio a iniezione bi-materiale, è composto da una base di PP rigido sulla quale viene aggiunto uno strato morbido di Santoprene TVP. Disponibile in ogni colore desiderato, garantisce una presa sicura del flacone, un effetto piacevole al tatto (in grado di attrarre i consumatori) e una superficie antiscivolo anche con contenitore bagnato.
Questa applicazione è fra le prime del Santoprene TVP nel campo dei prodotti cosmetici, visto che in passato era stato utilizzato solo per il confezionamento di profumi.

Containers with a soft touch
Beiersdorf, producer on a global level of cosmetics and toiletries has chosen vulcanised thermoplastic TVP Santoprene by Advanced Elastomer Systems for Nivea shaving foam and gel dispensers. The dispenser, produced by a system of bi-material injection moulding, is composed of a rigid PP base to which is added a soft layer of Santoprene TVP.
Available in any colour you might wish for, it guarantees a secure grip of the bottle, it is pleasant to the touch (a magnet for consumers) and has a non-slip surface even when the container is wet.
This application is amongst Santoprene TVP’s first in the field of cosmetic products, as in the past it was only used for packaging perfumes.

1018 Inchiostri senza silicone
Coates Screen (Sun Chemical) presenta SFW 70 Vioroll, un bianco serigrafico coprente per la sovrastampa di etichette con inchiostri flessografici e offset. Studiato principalmente per la stampa serigrafia rotativa, SFW70 Vioroll è privo di silicone ed è perciò più recettivo alla sovrastampa con inchiostri flessografici e/o litografici, pur mantenendo le caratteristiche di rapido asciugamento, buona flessibilità e resistenza all’edge curl. Tutti gli inchiostri Vioroll sono stati formulati per stampe ad alta velocità di supporti in polipropilene e polietilene, preverniciati o trattati con sistema corona, oltre che per la maggior parte dei supporti di etichette. Dopo un essiccamento completo, sono resistenti a quasi tutti i detergenti e i prodotti per l’igiene, incluse le soluzioni acquose e contenenti alcool, nonché i saponi liquidi. A completamento del bianco coprente senza silicone SFW70, nella serie Vioroll sono disponibili i nove colori di base C-Mix 2000 (pieni, luminosi e monopigmentati) oltre al bianco, al nero e alla base trasparente per permettere la formulazione di qualsiasi tonalità del catalogo Pantone. I colori C-Mix 2000 sono disponibili su sistemi di miscelazione Formulator e IDS per una gestione completa del colore.

Silicone-free inks
Coates Screen (Sun Chemical) presents SFW 70 Vioroll, a silk screen masking blank for the overprinting of labels with flexographic and offset inks. Designed mainly for rotary silk screen printing, the SFW70 Vioroll contains no silicone and is therefore more receptive of overprinting with flexographic and/or lithographic inks, while maintaining the characteristics of fast drying, good flexibility and resistance to edge curl.
All the Vioroll inks are formulated for the high speed printing of supports in polypropylene and polyethylene, pre-printed or treated with the corona system, as well as most other label supports. After drying completely, they are resistant to almost all detergents and cleaning products, including water-based solutions and those containing alcohol, as well as liquid soaps.
To complement the silicone-free SFW70 masking blank, the Vioroll series also includes the nine C-Mix 2000 colors (solid, bright and single-pigment) as well as white, black and transparent to allow the formulation of any tone in the Pantone catalogue.
The C-Mix 2000 colors are available for Formulator and IDS mixing systems for complete color management.

1019 Contenitori multiuso
Chimar (Campogalliano, MO) ha messo a punto due contenitori multiuso riutilizzabili, e-BOX ed e-PACK, disponibili nelle versioni 800x600x640, 1200x800x795 e 1200x1000x990 mm. La base (composta da un pallet a quattro vie) e il coperchio (a incastro per la sovrapposizione dei contenitori) sono realizzati in PE con tecnologia a iniezione, e vengono forniti con chiavistelli per il fissaggio al perimetro. Quest’ultimo è disponibile in due versioni dotate di sedi per il fissaggio alla base e al coperchio: di cartone a tre onde (spessore 15 mm) o di plastica alveolare (spessore 10 mm). Punto di forza di e-BOX ed e-PACK è la possibilità di riutilizzarli più volte. Infatti, dopo l’uso è possibile ripiegare il perimetro e inserirlo tra fondo e coperchio riducendo notevolmente il volume del contenitore. Disponibili, su richiesta, una vasta gamma di accessori.

Multi-use containers
Chimar (Campogalliano, MO) has fine-tuned two reusable containers, e-BOX and e-PACK, available in versions 800x600x640, 1200x800x795 and 1200x1000x990 mm. The base (composed of a quadrilateral pallet) and the cover (slotted so that the containers can be placed one on top of another) are made of PE using injection technology and are supplied with bolts to fix them to the edge. This latter is available in two versions equipped with seats to fix them to the base and to the cover: in tri-corrugated cardboard (thickness 15 mm) or honeycomb plastic (thickness 10 mm). The strengths of e-BOX and e-PACK lie in the fact that they may be used more than once. Indeed, after use you can fold the edge and slot it between the base and the cover thus considerably reducing the volume of the container. A wide range of accessories is available upon request.

1020 Masterbatch additivi
Cabot ha messo a punto una nuova gamma di masterbatch additivi. Molti di questi sono prodotti in Italia nello stabilimento di Grigno (TN) e trovano applicazione nell’industria della trasformazione delle materie plastiche. I nuovi masterbatch Plasadd® includono agevolanti di processo e additivi in grado di migliorare le caratteristiche tecniche dei prodotti finiti.
Fra gli altri, specifici per il settore dell’imballaggio, ricordiamo i masterbatch scivolanti, anti-block e anti-fog, ideali per migliorare la qualità dei film prodotti con processo a bolla e cast. Gli agevolanti di processo sono studiati per risolvere i problemi riscontrati durante il processo di trasformazione, come elettricità statica, porosità, rottura del fuso e degradazione del polimero.
I masterbatch Cabot sono distribuiti in Italia da Eurochrome.

Masterbatch additives
Cabot has fine-tuned a new range of masterbatch additives. Many of these are produced in Italy at the Grigno plant (TN) and used in the plastic materials conversion industry. The new masterbatch Plasadd® include process facilitators and additives able to improve the technical characteristics of the finished products.
Among others, intended specifically for the packaging sector, we recall the sliding, anti-block and anti-fog masterbatch, ideal for improving the quality of film produced by blow and cast processing. Process facilitators are studied for solving problems which crop up during the transformation process, such as static electricity, porosity, breaking of the spindle and polymer degradation.
Cabot masterbatch are distributed in Italy by Eurochrome.

1021 Erogazione controllata
Airspray ha ottenuto un’esclusiva a livello mondiale relativa a una nuova tecnologia di erogazione ideale per prodotti cremosi, per mezzo della quale potrà accedere al segmento più importante (stimato in 1,3 miliardi di pezzi) del settore personal care. Vista l’alta competitività che caratterizza questo comparto, particolare attenzione è stata rivolta al contenimento dei costi, ottenuto anche grazie al disegno semplificato del dispenser, con un numero ridotto di componenti. Del nuovo erogatore è al momento in corso una produzione pilota, mentre il lancio sul mercato è previsto per la fine del 2004.

Controlled dispensing
Airspray has obtained an exclusive and worldwide license of a new lotion dispenser technology, whereby the concern gains access to the largest segment (around 1,3 billion units) in the personal care industry. The key advantage of the new technology is the simple design of the dispenser, which has a positive impact on its cost. Its relatively low cost is very important, since the lotion dispenser market is very competitive. The new technology is currently in the pilot production stage. Airspray plans to launch the new dispenser late 2004.
