La fiera dell’alimentare
Mille e quattordici espositori italiani e stranieri, disposti su una superficie di circa 80.000 m2, hanno preso parte all’ultima edizione di CibusTec, la rassegna internazionale di processo e imballaggio alimentare che si è svolta a Parma dal 21 al 25 ottobre 2003. Specializzate nella produzione di macchinari per l’industria alimentare (dalla trasformazione delle materie prime al confezionamento fino alla distribuzione nei punti vendita), le aziende che hanno partecipato alla fiera esprimono un fatturato complessivo di 20 miliardi di Euro; undici miliardi, in particolare, sono generati da attività compiute nel nostro Paese sia da società italiane sia da filiali di multinazionali.
Nell’Unione europea, lo ricordiamo, l’industria alimentare occupa 2,5 milioni di addetti e sviluppa un giro d’affari valutato in 700 miliardi di Euro l’anno.
Aziende, materiali e macchine: le informazioni sui protagonisti del CibusTec (evento organizzato da Fiere di Parma SpA) trovano ampio spazio in questa sezione Memo. The food fair
One thousand and fourteen Italian and foreign exhibitors, over a surface of around 80,000 m2, took part in the latest edition of CibusTec, the international food packaging and processing show that was held at Parma from 21st to 25th of October 2003. Specialised in the production of machines for the food industry (from converting raw materials to packaging up to the distribution of the salespoints), the companies that took part at the fair express an overall turnover of 20 billion Euros; eleven billions in particular generated by the activities carried out in Italy by both Italian companies as well as by multinationals.
As a reminder, the European Union food industry employs 2.5 million persons and has a turnover rated at 700 billion Euros a year.

Analisi dell’aggraffatura
Labo-Scientifica arricchisce la propria offerta di strumenti per laboratori di analisi con l’analizzatore Seam Check presentato durante l’ultimo CibusTec. Si tratta di un sistema ottico, collegabile ad un qualsiasi PC, in grado di effettuare le misure dei parametri qualitativi interni dell’aggraffatura nelle confezioni di banda stagnata.
"Studiato e realizzato in stretta collaborazione con una società di ingegneria - spiega Federica Greci, direttore tecnico dell’azienda parmense - Seam Check è composto da una telecamera digitale che riprende la sezione dell’aggraffatura, un blocco meccanico per la scatola (in modo che le riprese siano sempre a fuoco) e un calibro di taratura. Collegando il sistema ad un PC mediante un normale cavo USB, l’immagine dell’aggraffatura viene acquisita in modo che con il mouse si possano effettuare le misure dei parametri indicati. I valori misurati vengono salvati e possono essere esportati in Excel o in altri comuni fogli di calcolo".
Affidabile e facile da usare - Tra i vantaggi offerti da Seam Check, oltre alle dimensioni compatte e alla piena compatibilità con i software esistenti, meritano un cenno particolare la precisione delle rilevazioni e la semplicità dell’interfaccia. "La nostra soluzione - prosegue Federica Greci - non richiede all’utente competenze informatiche approfondite. Utilizzabile sia con comune PC sia con un computer portatile, il Seam Check può essere definito un sistema semi automatico. Il posizionamento fisico dell’oggetto, nonché del cursore sull’immagine acquisita, sono infatti operazioni eseguite dall’operatore.
Dopo aver inserito i valori di spessore del materiale utilizzato, il software si occupa di tutto il resto: il rilevamento dello spessore e della lunghezza dell’aggraffatura, la misurazione del gancio del fondo e del corpo, il calcolo dello spazio libero e della sovrapposizione reale.
L’operatore, inoltre, può inserire in un’apposita maschera del programma, la data, il nome del lotto e l’identificativo del prodotto, salvando anche i propri giudizi personali sull’aggraffatura".

Seaming analysis
Labo-Scientifica enriches its product offer of laboratory tools with the Seam Check analyser presented during the latest CibusTec. Seam Check is an optical system, that can be connected up to any PC, that enables the measuring of inner qualitative parameters in the seaming of tin packaging containers. “Devised and created in close cooperation with an engineering company - Federica Greci, technical manager of the Parma-based firm explains - Seam Check is made up of a digital camera that films the seam section, a mechanical tin blocking device (so that the filming is always in focus) and a setting gauge. Connecting up the system to a PC using a normal USB cable, the seaming image is acquired in order that the indicated parameters can be measured using a mouse. The measurements are saved and can be exported in Excel or in other common spreadsheets”.
Reliable and easy-to-use - Among the advantages offered by Seam Check, as well as its compact size and full compatibility with the existing software, the precision of the reading and the simplicity of the interface deserve a special mention. As Federica Greci goes on to say - “our solution does not require the user to have in-depth computer skills. Usable both as a common PC as well as a portable computer, Seam Check can be defined as a semiautomatic system. The physical positioning of the objects, as well as the cursor on the image acquired are in fact carried out by the operator. After you insert the measurement of the thickness of the material used, the software takes care of the rest: the reading of the thickness and the length of the seam, the measurement of the base and body hook, the calculation of free space and actual overlapping.
As well as that the operator can insert the date, the lot number and the product ID in a special mask, also saving his own personal judgements on the seaming”.

Drive & Control per l’alimentare
Durante lo scorso Cibus Tec, Bosch Rexroth ha lanciato alcune soluzioni dedicate all’industria alimentare: valvole per applicazioni washdown, mini cilindri e un sistema di trasporto modulare.
Bosch Rexroth non si è lasciata sfuggire l’occasione del CibusTec per incontrare i propri clienti e la stampa specializzata, con l’obiettivo di promuovere tre soluzioni Drive & Control specifiche per il processo e il confezionamento nel settore alimentare, ossia le valvole Clean Line CL03, i mini cilindri ISO Octagon e il sistema di trasporto VarioFlow.
Prima di presentare i nuovi prodotti, i vertici del Centro regionale Bosch Rexroth di Bologna hanno tracciato un rapido identikit della multinazionale. Nata nel maggio 2001 dalla fusione tra Bosch Automationstechnik e Mannesmann Rexroth, e specializzata nelle tecnologie di azionamento, controllo e movimento (dalla meccanica all’idraulica, dalla pneumatica all’elettronica) Bosch Rexroth AG esprime un fatturato complessivo di 3,62 miliardi di Euro, di cui il 33% realizzato in Germania, il 36% nel resto d’Europa, il 10% in Asia e il 21% in America. Alla sede italiana di Bosch Rexroth Spa (Cernusco sul Naviglio, MI) fanno capo i cinque centri regionali di Milano, Torino, Padova, Napoli e, come anticipato, Bologna.
Valvole per applicazioni washdown - La valvola Clean Line CL03 IP69K si distingue per l’igienicità del disegno, l’alta classe di protezione, la modularità e flessibilità. Lo spazio tra i coperchi di protezione delle valvole consente di evitare accumuli di sporcizia e facilitare la pulizia, mentre le sottobasi individuali di materiale plastico possono resistere a sostanze detergenti e prodotti chimici aggressivi. I coperchi protettivi di poliammide 12, inoltre, la rendono ideale per tutte le applicazioni di tipo “washdown”.
Mini cilindri -La nuova serie di mini cilindri pneumatici OCT Octagon si caratterizza per la forza pistone incrementata del 15% (a parità d’ingombro), la possibilità di scegliere fra asta rotante/non rotante e gli attacchi a innesto rapido integrati. Grazie ai materiali utilizzati, inoltre, il cilindro è molto resistente ai liquidi aggressivi e può essere pulito con qualsiasi tipo di soluzione detergente, mentre l’impiego di plastica ad alta resistenza permette connessioni tipo Quickfix pre-assemblate che facilitano il montaggio.
Sistema di trasporto - VarioFlow è un sistema di trasporto modulare per prodotti di tutti i tipi, sia in verticale sia in orizzontale, che si caratterizza per il buon rapporto costo/prestazioni e l’adattabilità alle diverse applicazioni. La particolare catena di plastica è disponibile in versione antistatica (ESD), di materiale sintetico (POM) e anche rivestita di acciaio, oltre a quelle con superficie ad alto attrito e a trascinamento a rullini. La gamma si amplia ora con nuove tipologie di catene, disponibili in larghezze 65 e 90 mm, oltre a supporti per la guida laterale, accessori per il montaggio, kit di collegamento tra l’unità di azionamento di testa e il rinvio, kit per azionare in sincronia due trasportatori a catena paralleli.

Drive & Control for the food sector
During the recent CibusTec, Bosch Rexroth launched a few solutions dedicated to the food industry: valves for washdown applications, mini-cylinders and a modular conveyor system.
Bosch Rexroth made sure it seized the opportunity offered by Cibus Tec to meet its customers and the trade press, with the aim of promoting three specific Drive & Control solutions for processing and packing in the food industry, i.e. the Clean Line CL03 valves, the ISO Octagon mini-cylinders and the VarioFlow conveyor system.
Before presenting the new products, the management at Bosch Rexroth's regional centre in Bologna outlined a quick identikit of the multinational. Set up in May 2001 as a result of a merger between Bosch Automationstechnik and Mannesmann Rexroth and specialising in the drive, control and movement technology (from mechanics to hydraulics, pneumatics to electronics), Bosch Rexroth AG has an overall turnover of 3.62 billion Euros, with 33% coming from its activities in Germany, 36% in the rest of Europe, 10% in Asia and 21% in America. Five regional centres in Milan, Turin, Padua, Naples and, as mentioned above, Bologna report to the Italian head office: Bosch Rexroth Spa (Cernusco sul Naviglio, Milan).
Valves for washdown applications - The Clean Line CL03 IP69K valve stands out for its hygienic design, superior class of protection, modularity and flexibility. The space between the protection covers on the valves prevent the build-up of dirt and make cleaning easier, while the individual plastic sub-bases can withstand aggressive detergents and chemicals. Moreover, the protective polyamide 12 covers make the valve ideal for all “washdown” applications.
Mini-cylinders - The new series of OCT Octagon pneumatic mini-cylinders features a 15% stronger piston force (for the same size), the chance to select between a rotary and non-rotary rod and integrated fast-coupling fittings. Moreover, thanks to the materials used, the cylinder is very resistant to aggressive liquids and can be cleaned with any type of detergent solution, while the use of high-strength plastic allows for the use of pre-assembled Quickfix connections that make assembly much easier.
Conveyor system - VarioFlow is a modular conveyor system for all types of product, both vertical and horizontal, offering a good cost/performance ratio and excellent adaptability for the various types of application. The special plastic chain also comes in an anti-static version (ESD), in a synthetic material (POM) and can also be steel-plated, not to mention the versions with a high attrition surface or roller draft. The range is now extended to include new chain versions, coming in widths of 65 and 90 mm, as well as supports for the lateral guide, assembly accessories, a kit for connecting the main drive unit and the transmission unit and a kit for synchronous drive of two parallel chain conveyors.

Marcatura e codifica a tutto campo
Con la propria presenza al CibusTec, Nimax ha inteso, da un lato, promuovere ulteriormente i codificatori a getto d’inchiostro e laser a marchio Domino, e dall’altro, ribadire l'attualità di alcune proposte tecnologiche in materia di inchiostri e codificatori a trasferimento termico, nonché di servizi al cliente.
Come ha affermato il direttore vendite dell’azienda bolognese, Massimo Magagnoli, "con la prossima entrata in vigore della normativa europea che impone di codificare le uova una per una, si rendono necessari inchiostri particolari. Occorre ricordare al proposito che il guscio è costituito di materia traspirante, perciò i rischi per la salute del consumatore possono essere elevati. Per risolvere il problema, abbiamo messo a punto un inchiostro rosso speciale a base alcol, già approvato dal Ministero della Sanità". Nimax, dunque, è da tempo in grado di fornire un inchiostro adatto per questo tipo di applicazione.
• Realizzato da ICE (Interactive Coding Equipment) e distribuito da Nimax in esclusiva per l’Italia, Zodiac è il codificatore a trasferimento termico "ideale per la codifica e la sovrastampa ad alta velocità di film flessibili, etichette e cartoni che trova applicazione, fra gli altri, nei settori della pasta e del formaggio. Improntata alla massima semplicità strutturale - ribadisce Magagnoli - si tratta della prima stampante con controllo elettronico dei motori che assicura risparmi di gestione grazie alla maggiore efficienza, alla facilità di regolazione dei parametri e alle rese costanti nel tempo".
In assenza di parti meccaniche soggette a usura, Zodiac coniuga affidabilità e qualità di stampa, senza rotture del nastro. Il sistema di controllo bi-direzionale del nastro, inoltre, ne agevola l'impiego in applicazioni dove sia richiesta stampa intermittente o continua, mentre il controllo elettronico di tensionamento garantisce il massimo sfruttamento del nastro stesso.
Intuitivo il pannello di controllo a colori touch screen, con cui si possono impostare comandi e verifiche. Il software permette la connessione in network di più unità e la codifica a trasferimento termico interattiva.
• Con l’offerta “Premium Service” Nimax propone inoltre un insieme coerente di prestazioni destinate ad agevolare le relazioni con il mercato. Emblematico, al riguardo, il pacchetto elaborato per il servizio di assistenza relativo alle stampanti a getto di inchiostro, dalla definizione di un'applicazione alla messa a punto del progetto, sino all’installazione dell'apparecchiatura. Un cenno, infine, ai corsi d’uso e manutenzione delle stampanti presso il proprio centro di formazione, e al rafforzamento della rete di assistenza tecnica, dislocata in quattro sedi per coprire meglio l'intero territorio nazionale.

Unlimited marking and coding
With its presence at CibusTec, Nimax set out to further promote the Domino brand of inkjet and laser coders and, at the same time, stress the topical nature of some of the technological proposals for inks and heat transfer coders, not to mention customer service.
As Massimo Magagnoli, Sales Director of this Bologna based company, said "special inks are now needed in view of the forthcoming introduction of a European standard that requires eggs to be individually marked. Here it should be remembered that the shell is a transpiring material and so there could be great risks for the health of consumers. To get around this problem, we've developed a special alcohol-based red ink, already approved by the Ministry of Health".
Nimax, therefore, has already been in the position to supply a suitable ink for this application for some time.
• Produced by ICE (Interactive Coding Equipment) and distributed by Nimax on an exclusive basis in Italy, the new heat transfer coding equipment Zodiac is perfect for the high speed coding and overprinting of flexible film, labels and cartons, suitable for applications in the pasta and cheese sectors, among others. Based on maximum structural simplicity - stresses Magagnoli - this is the first printing machine with electronic motor control, which ensures savings in overall management, thanks to greater efficiency, ease of adjustment of parameters and the performance yield over time. With no mechanical parts subject to wear, the Zodiac guarantees maximum reliability and high print quality, without tape breakages. The exclusive bi-directional tape control aids its use in applications where intermittent or continuous printing is required, while electronic tension control guarantees maximum exploitation of the tape itself.
The color touch-screen control panel is innovative (but intuitive), allowing the setting of all operations and tests. New-concept software allows network connection of several units and, in an industrial scene ever more directed towards the “Net”, it becomes a versatile tool for interactive heat transfer coding.
• With its “Premium Service” offer, Nimax also proposes a coherent series of services aimed at facilitating market relations. Emblematic of this is the customer service package developed for the inkjet printers, ranging from the definition of the application to the development of the project and the installation of the equipment. Finally, worthy of special mention are the printer instruction and maintenance courses run at Nimax's training centre and the strengthening of its technical service network, now consisting of four seats to guarantee complete coverage of Italy.

Pneumatica, una conferma italiana
Solida realtà industriale attiva nella produzione di componenti pneumatici, Pneumax prosegue nel suo percorso di crescita, coniugando innovazione di prodotto e di processo, capacità di penetrazione sul mercato e responsabilità sociale. A.S.
Piccola azienda fondata nel 1976, Pneumax è diventata nel tempo una costellazione di 21 imprese produttive, commerciali e di assistenza, con un fatturato complessivo che si attesta intorno ai 60 milioni di Euro. Il gruppo, protagonista nel settore dei componenti pneumatici, ha aperto consociate in Francia, Germania, Regno Unito, Spagna, Russia e Argentina, e può contare su un’estesa rete di concessionari e distributori nel resto del mondo. La produzione è effettuata negli stabilimenti di Pneumax SpA a Lurano (BG), dove lavorano circa 240 dipendenti e si genera un fatturato di circa 42 milioni di Euro, di cui il 30% di là delle Alpi. In occasione dello scorso CibusTec (dove il gruppo ha esposto la propria gamma di valvole, elettrovalvole, cilindri, sensori, raccorderia…) abbiamo incontrato il titolare, Roberto Bottacini, che ci ha svelato cosa si nasconde dietro ai buoni risultati conseguiti da Pneumax anche in questi ultimi anni, nonostante il generale rallentamento dell’economia e le difficoltà internazionali.
Evoluzione continua - "È pur vero che la nostra offerta trova sbocco in settori molto diversi fra loro (dal processo alimentare all’imballaggio, dalle macchine per il legno all’industria tessile), e questa diversificazione ci consente di attutire eventuali crisi legate a un singolo un comparto. Sono altri, tuttavia - puntualizza Bottacini - i motivi di fiducia che opponiamo al nervosismo del mercato e all’emergere di nuovi e temibili concorrenti, soprattutto asiatici".
Oltre all’innovazione di prodotto, esigenza che Pneumax supporta con adeguate strutture di R&S, "assume un rilievo particolare l’innovazione di processo. Abbiamo infatti investito sia in procedure di lavorazione più efficienti, sia nell’utilizzo di nuovi materiali - prosegue il nostro interlocutore - e grazie a questi sforzi oggi siamo in grado di proporre soluzioni sempre più affidabili, compatte e flessibili, capaci di coniugare alte prestazioni e prezzi competitivi".
L’azienda ha inoltre rafforzato la propria azione commerciale. "Non si tratta solo di “strappare” i clienti alla concorrenza - precisa Bottacini - ma di far conoscere al mercato i nostri prodotti specializzati, capaci di soddisfare esigenze ancora inespresse. La questione, in altri termini, non riguarda solo la ridefinizione delle quote fra i vari attori in competizione, bensì la crescita complessiva dei comparti in cui siamo presenti".
Sviluppo responsabile - A caratterizzare l’operato di Pneumax è anche l’atteggiamento socialmente responsabile dimostrato verso le persone, le risorse e l’ambiente circostante. "Nella cittadina di Lurano, in particolare, abbiamo intrapreso diverse iniziative concrete per migliorare la vita di chi, direttamente o indirettamente, fa riferimento alla fabbrica. Del resto, conquistare i mercati internazionali non significa disinteressarsi della propria comunità; al contrario, la scelta di valorizzare le nostre radici è la migliore garanzia per una crescita sana e sostenibile". Nella pacata lucidità con cui l’imprenditore parla del clima costruttivo che si respira in azienda, emerge infine la fiducia accordata da Pneumax alla propria forza lavoro, soprattutto ai giovani. "La formazione del personale - conclude Bottacini - è uno dei nostri motivi di vanto: l’insegnamento è molto accurato, la pratica è molto intensa e, se ci sono buona volontà e impegno, le occasioni per emergere non mancano".

Pneumatics, confirmation from Italy
A solid industrial concern active in the production of pneumatic components, Pneumax carries on in its path of growth, marrying product and process innovation, market penetration capacity and social responsibility. A.S.
A small company founded in 1976, Pneumax has in time become a constellation of 21 production, commercial and servicing concerns, with an overall turnover that stands at around 60 million Euros. The group, protagonist in the sector of pneumatic components, has opened sister concerns in France, Germany, the UK, Spain, Russia and Argentina, and can count on a broad network of concessionaires and distributors throughout the world. Production is at the Pneumax SpA works at Lurano (BG), where around 240 employees work and a turnover of around 42 million Euros is generated, 30% of which north of the Alps.
During the last CibusTec (where the group exhibited its own range of valves, electrovalves, cylinders, sensors, fittings..) we met company head Roberto Bottacini, who revealed to us what was behind the good results also achieved by Pneumax over these last few years, this despite the general slowing down of the economy and international difficulties.
The evolution goes on - “It is all the same true that our product offer finds outlets in sectors very different from each other (from the food process to packaging, from woodworking machines to the textile industry), and this diversification allows us to mitigate any crisis affecting a single segment. All the same - as Bottacini goes on to say - we have other grounds for self-assurance to pit against the jumpiness of the market and the emergence of new and fearful competitors, aboveall from Asia”.
As well as the need for product innovation, satisfied by Pneumax with its suitably sized R&D structure “process innovation takes on a particular importance. We have in fact invested both in more efficient processing procedures, as well as in the use of new materials - the Pneumax head goes on to say - and thanks to this effort today we are capable of proposing evermore reliable, compact and flexible solutions, capable of marrying high performance and competitive prices”.
The company has also boosted its own commercial action. “It is not simply a matter of “grabbing” your competitors’ customers - Bottacini adds - but allowing the market to get to know our special products, capable as they are of satisfying needs that have yet to emerge. It is hence not merely a question of reportioning the market between the various competitors, but rather that of the overall growth of the segment which we operate in”.
Responsible development - Pneumax’s approach also features a socially responsible commitment towards people, resources and the surrounding environment. “In the town of Lurano in particular we have started up various concrete undertakings to improve the lives of those directly or indirectly related to our factory.
What is more, conquering international markets does not mean showing a lack of interest in ones own community; quite the opposite, cherishing your roots is the best guarantee for a healthy and sustainable growth”.
The calm clearness with which Bottacini speaks of the constructive climate that exists in the company, reveals the degree of trust that Pneumax has in its own workforce, aboveall the younger persons. “our personnel training - concludes Bottacini - is something I believe we can be proud of: the training goes into great detail, with intense practical experience where those showing goodwill and commitment have every chance of emerging”.
