AD HOC Ink jet, laser e RFID: tecnologie diverse per la codifica, la marcatura e l’identificazione, che Domino (rappresentata in Italia da Nimax SpA) propone per il settore alimentare, il beverage e il cosmo-pharma.
Domino Printing Sciences Plc, con le tre controllate Domino, Sator e Wiedenbach, è un nome di spicco per le tecnologie di codifica e marcatura. «In venticinque anni di impegno in questo comparto - commenta con orgoglio Robert Pulford, direttore della divisione inkjet di Domino - abbiamo contribuito a fissare gli standard di settore per qualità di stampa, uniformità e affidabilità». Una lunga esperienza che si traduce in una gamma ampia e diversificata, di cui abbiamo visto a Interpack alcuni esempi convincenti.
Inkjet, laser o RFID
Si può iniziare dalle stampanti A-Series a getto di inchiostro continuo, con oltre 50.000 installazioni nel mondo; la A300, in particolare, stampa fino a quattro linee di testo con una varietà di formati che comprende logo, codici a barre/codici a punti, numerazione seriale automatica, batch e orologi in tempo reale.
• I sistemi laser scribing S-Series comprendono i modelli S100, S200 e S300, una soluzione di codifica semplice e compatta. Utilizzando la tecnologia laser CO2, la S-Series marca testo, grafica e dati variabili, in modo permanente, su diversi supporti (carta, cartone, plastica e vetro).
• Il sistema di rintracciabilità del prodotto (PTS, Product Traceability System) soddisfa i diversi requisiti EAN UCC per gli standard dei codici a barre ed è conforme al requisito RFID attualmente introdotto dai principali venditori al dettaglio. Riconosce in modo separato i dati nei codici a barre e nei tag RF.
• Le stampanti C-Series a getto di inchiostro ad alta risoluzione e a caratteri grandi utilizzano la tecnologia Piezo per stampare codici a barre, testo e grafica su supporti porosi come confezioni esterne corrugate, vassoi e sacchetti.
Settore per settore
Dall’alimentare alle bevande, dal cosmetico al farmaceutico, Domino ha messo a punto proposte specifiche per ogni esigenza. Vediamo, in breve, quali sono.
Alimentare - Una codifica direttamente sugli alimenti o gli imballaggi di alimenti, conforme alle normative FDA, MAFF e CEE. Applicazioni tipiche comprendono uova, PET, confezioni flessibili, involucri flow wrap, cartoni, lattine o confezioni esterne ondulate. Il laser scribing S300, in particolare, stampa anche sui cartoni per prodotti dolciari.
Bevande - Dispositivi laser e inkjet offrono opzioni di codifica veloci ed efficienti in termini di costo. In mostra, la stampante A300SE e il sistema laser S200B, impegnati su bottiglie di PET, mentre le stampanti C6000 marcavano le confezioni esterne.
Cosmetica - Il laser scribing S100 è stato visto in funzione sui lucidalabbra; le stampanti inkjet a caratteri grandi e alta risoluzione C100/1000, inoltre, sono state presentate assieme alle A100 Domino di fascia media.
Farmaceutico - La A-Series Pharma (inkjet) e il laser scribing DSL Pharma possono essere forniti con pacchetti di verifica per GAMP e utilizzati in applicazioni 21-CFR parte 11; un cenno, infine, alle stampanti a getto di inchiostro a caratteri grandi e ad alta risoluzione C1000 e C3000 Domino.
Marking and traceability
AD HOC - Inkjet, laser and also RFID: these are the various coding, marking and identifying technologies on offer by Domino (represented in Italy by Nimax SpA, Bologna), with proposals for the food, beverages and cosmo-pharma sectors.
Domino Printing Sciences Plc, with its three controlled companies Domino, Sator and Wiedenbach, is a leading name in coding and marking technologies.
Robert Pulford, director of Domino’s inkjet division, comments proudly that, by combining their twenty-five years’ dedication to the field they have helped determine the sector’s standards of printing quality, uniformity and reliability. Their wide experience has translated into a wide and varied range of products, of which we saw some convincing examples at the Interpack exhibition.
Inkjet, laser or RFID
Let us begin with the A-Series continuous ink-jet printers, with over 50,000 enterprises worldwide; the A300, especially, can print up to four lines of text in a variety of formats including logo, barcodes/dot codes, automatic serial numbering, batches and watches in real time.
• S-Series laser scribing systems include the S100, S200 and S300 models, a simple and compact coding solution. By using CO2 laser technology, S-Series marks permanent text, graphics and variable data on various mediums (paper, card, plastic and glass).
• The product traceability system (PTS) satisfies the various EAN UCC prerequisites for barcode standards and conforms to the RFID prerequisite introduced by the main retailers.
It recognises barcodes and RF tags individually.
• C-Series large character high resolution ink-jet printers employ Piezo technology for printing bar codes, text and graphics on porous mediums like corrugated external packing, trays and bags.
Sector by sector
Domino has devised specific proposals for any demand, from food to beverages, from cosmetics to pharmaceuticals.
These proposals are briefly listed below.
Food - Coding applied directly to food or to food packaging, conforming to FDA, MAFF and CEE standards. Typical applications include eggs, PET, flexible packing, flow wraps, cartons, cans or external corrugated packaging. S300 laser scribing, especially, also prints on confectionery packs.
Beverages - Laser and inkjet devices offer coding that is both fast and cost-effective. The A300SE printer and S200B laser system, on display, are used for marking PET bottles, while C6000 printers mark the external packing.
Cosmetics - S100 laser scribing is used on lipsticks; C100/1000 large character high resolution inkjet printers were also displayed together with the A100 Domino medium range.
Pharmaceuticals - The A-Series Pharma inkjet and DSL Pharma laser scribing can come with GAMP control packages and be used for 21-CFR part 11 applications; lastly, a mention goes to the C1000 and C3000 Domino large character high resolution inkjet printers.
Soluzioni per l’etichettatura
A.L.Tech (Bareggio, MI) ha proposto a Düsseldorf un’ampia varietà di soluzioni per l’etichettatura.
• ALstep è un applicatore di etichette autoadesive dal buon rapporto qualità/prezzo, progettato per essere integrato in linee di packaging già funzionanti, grazie al design modulare e flessibile. Monta bobine di etichette con 300 mm di diametro e 100 mm di larghezza, garantendo nella versione S una velocità di 30 m/min. La versione E, economica, si limita a 15 m/min.
• ALritma è un applicatore di etichette ad alte prestazioni con bobine di etichette fino a 300 mm di diametro e fino a 300 mm di larghezza. La velocità va da 40 m/min (versione standard) a 80 (Xtra). È disponibile anche con gruppo di stampa a trasferimento termico nella versione ALritmaT, per applicazioni di print/apply.
• ALline (con la nuova versione Compact) è una gamma di sistemi lineari complessi in grado di applicare etichette autoadesive su prodotti di varia dimensione e foggia (tondi, ovali, piatti ecc.). Il suo design modulare, che integra le teste ALstep e/o Alritma, è configurabile in base alle necessità del cliente, consentendo un’etichettatura fronte/retro, avvolgente e sigillo di prodotti alimentari, cosmetici, chimici e farmaceutici.
• Le unità ALcode, grazie anche alla particolare concezione dei moduli di stampa utilizzati (SATO e compatibili), possono stampare e applicare etichette “in tempo reale”. Le etichette possono essere applicate con sei diversi metodi (a contatto diretto, a soffio d’aria, a rullino d’adattamento, a braccio rotante ecc.) e stampate con dati sempre diversi (utile per l’etichettatura di pallet). ALcodeP, in particolare, etichetta pallet su due lati fino a 120 pz/h, mentre ALcodeRFID può stampare, registrare le “smart labels” e applicarle su scatole o pallet.
• L’ultima innovazione A.L.Tech è ALsleeve (foto), un’unità concepita per l’applicazione automatica di sigilli termoretratti antieffrazione su chiusure di prodotti alimentari.
Solutions for labeling
At the Interpack A.L.Tech (Bareggio, MI) proposed a broad range of solutions for labeling.
• ALstep is a compact, low-cost range of label applicators, designed to be easily integrated into an existing packaging line. Their modular design allows them to be easily configured, often into areas where space is limited.
They accept label rolls up to 11.8” (300 mm) in diameter, and labels up to 3.9” (100 mm) wide; the normal speed is 10”/sec (15 m/min), and the S-model will reach a speed of 20”/sec (30 m/min).
• ALritma is a high-performance label applicator accepting label rolls up to 11.8” (300 mm) in diameter, and labels up to 11.8” (300 mm) wide, according to the model; the normal speed is 27”/sec (40 m/min), optional 54”/sec (80 m/min) for the Xtra model. There is also a print and apply version available, ALritmaT, allowing in-line printing to be achieved.
• ALline (with the new model Compact) is a range of automatic labeling systems. The modular design, which integrates ALstep and ALritma labeling heads, means that they can be configured to apply labels to almost any shape and size of product with great accuracy. This makes them ideal for front/back, wrap-round and simple box labeling, at speed and with accurate placement of the label.
• The ALcode range, by utilizing the A.L.Tech modular designs and the expertise of the print module manufacturers (SATO and compatibles), can print and apply labels in real time. The labels can be applied by six different application methods, such as an air-blow applicator, tamp applicator, or swinging roller device. ALcodeP was designed to meet the requirements for print-and-apply labeling of pallets at the end of the line. The system has been designed to print and apply A5 size pallet labels onto 2 adjacent sides of a pallet, at speeds up to 120 pallets/h. ALcodeRFID can print record and apply “smart labels” on packages and pallets.
• ALsleeve, a unit specifically designed for the automatic application of thermo-shrinkable sleeves, for tamper evident purpose, on caps of food containers, to prevent product violation.
Codificatore a caratteri piccoli
Imaje ha messo a punto le serie 9000 di stampanti inkjet a piccoli caratteri, due linee (9020 e 9030) che si caratterizzano per facilità d’uso, ergonomia, interfaccia intuitiva, spiccata connettività, ricambio agevole dei materiali di consumo e, non ultimo, il nuovo tasto “i”, premendo il quale appare sullo schermo un testo di aiuto.
Le 9000 possono inoltre essere spostate facilmente da una linea all’altra, anche nelle posizioni di più difficile accesso; fra gli altri vantaggi, ricordiamo i tempi rapidi d’avvio, la stampa in continuo anche durante il cambio di cartuccia, l’aggiustamento dei parametri in automatico, la riduzione al minimo degli interventi dell’operatore. La cassa è in acciaio inox IP54 o IP65, e la testa di stampa in monoblocco rendono le 9000 idonee per le applicazioni industriali più difficili.
• Le Imaje 9020 sono idonee per tutte le applicazioni standard: una o due line di codifica, lavorazione su nastri trasportatori con velocità da 2 a 3 m/s, codifica su plastica, vetro, cartone e alluminio.
• Le Imaje 9030 sono invece ideali per applicazioni più specifiche come la codifica su due o tre linee, l’impiego in due stazioni di lavoro, l’operatività in ambienti industriali difficili, le connessioni di rete ecc.
Small character printer
The Imaje 9000 Series stands out as an excellent small character inkjet printer investment. The easy to use Imaje 9000 printers (9020 e 9030) offer outstanding ergonomics, intuitive user interface, easy accessory connections, simple consumables access and replacement and the new “i” key which provides on screen help text at the touch of a button. Imaje 9000 printers are easily integrated into practically any production line configuration, they can be quickly removed from one production line and easily re-installed on to another line, even in the most difficult-to-access positions. Imaje 9000 printers start up quickly, continue printing during cartridge change and adjust their parameters automatically in response to their environment. Operator interventions are kept to a strict minimum. The IP54 or IP65 stainless steel cabinet and molded printhead make the Imaje 9000 Series suitable for harsh industrial settings.
• Imaje 9020 - It suits all standard applications: one or two-line coding, 2 to 3 m/s conveyor speed, coding onto plastic, glass, cardboard, aluminum.
• Imaje 9030 - This model offers more advanced features and suits more specific applications such as: two and three-line coding, production on two workstations, harsher environments, network connections etc.
Soluzioni in anteprima
All’ultima edizione di Interpack, Arca Etichette (Marcallo con Casone, MI) ha presentato diverse innovazioni in anteprima, ampliando ulteriormente la propria gamma di materiali e macchine per l’etichettatura.
Queste, in particolare, le proposte in fiera:
• il print apply Air Plus con PC touch screen integrato, caratterizzato da un’interfaccia grafica funzionale e una piattaforma hardware adeguata ai software di ultima generazione;
• il sistema AS Pallet, che stabilisce nuovi standard produttivi e di controllo nell'etichettatura per la logistica;
• la nuova logica di controllo per sistemi di etichettatura, basata su PLC Siemens;
• le protezioni antinfortunistiche “integrate”, sia per i sistemi di etichettatura, sia per i cilindri applicatori delle print apply. Si tratta di soluzioni brevettate per soddisfare il dettato di legge, a costi interessanti, senza peraltro rendere difficili gli interventi in linea durante la produzione;
• la configurazione "twin labeler" per un'etichettatura continua, dal buon rapporto qualità/prezzo;
• e infine, la nuova versione dell'etichettatrice Wind, per applicazioni precise, fino a 100 m/min.
Solutions preview
At the latest edition of Interpack, Arca Etichette (Marcallo con Casone, MI) gave a preview of different innovations, as a further broadening its own range of labeling materials and machinery. In particular:
• print and apply Air Plus with integrated touchscreen PC, featuring a functional graphic interface and a hardware platform capable of hosting latest generation software;
• system AS Pallet, that sets new production and control standards in labeling for logistics;
• the new control logic for labeling systems, based on Siemens PLC;
• “integrated” accident prevention systems, both for the labeling as well as for the cylinder applicators of the print & apply. This is a patented solution that conforms to reigning standards at interesting costs, that also allows for troublefree intervention on the line during production;
• the “twin labeler” configuration for continuous labeling offering a good quality/price ratio;
• and lastly, the new version of the Wind labeler, for accurate applications, up to 100 m/min.
Codifica e gestione informazioni
Alla scorsa Interpack erano ben 56 (in differenti stand) i codificatori Markem montati sulle confezionatrici di 46 costruttori da 5 diverse nazioni (Italia, Germania, Inghilterra, Svizzera, Spagna): numeri che confermano la storica collaborazione fra Markem e gli OEM di tutto il mondo. La qualità dei contatti in fiera, inoltre, testimonia l’interesse del mercato per le soluzioni integrate (prodotti e servizi) rispetto ai singoli codificatori. Un approccio che Markem segue da anni, secondo il concetto “Product Identification Solutions”: individuare il sistema di codifica e gestione informazioni adatto alle specifiche necessità del cliente, dall’imballaggio primario fino al pallet, con un’ampia scelta anche per quanto riguarda l’identificazione con radiofrequenza (RFID). Queste, in particolare, le soluzioni in evidenza a Düsseldorf.
• Codificatori a trasferimento termico SmartDate® 5/5s: sono ideali per la codifica su film flessibile e per applicazioni nel settori degli snack, dolciumi, farmaceutico, cosmetico, prodotti da forno e cibi surgelati.
• Codificatori 5200 per cartoni a getto di resina: permettono di stampare codici a barre leggibili al 100%, testi, informazioni in tempo reale e immagini ad alta risoluzione direttamente in linea, per applicazioni su scatole e imballi secondari. I supporti comprendono cartoni lucidi e non, astucci, plastica rigida, film flessibile e confezioni termoretratte.
• Sistemi stampa/applica etichette Cimjet®: stampano e applicano etichette autoadesive su scatole, cartoni e pallet. La struttura robusta e durevole, oltre al design compatto, garantisce affidabilità e riduzione dei fermi di produzione imprevisti.
• Codificatori SmartLase®: sistemi digitali laser a bassa potenza (10-30 W), CO2, che permettono di ottenere codifiche pulite, permanenti e immediate. Rispettosi dell’ambiente, compatti e semplici da installare, sono integrabili all’interno di linee di confezionamento primarie per marcare astucci, etichette, materiali plastici e altre applicazioni particolari.
• Applied Intelligence™ per la Supply Chain: queste soluzioni RFID comprendono macchine, software e servizi per la codifica automatica e l’applicazione di tag RF alle velocità della linea di produzione, integrazione e gestione dati EPC.
Coding and information management
The last Interpack witnessed as many as 56 Markem coders assembled on the packaging machines of 46 builders from 5 different nations (Italy, Germany, UK, Switzerland, Spain): numbers that confirm the timehonored cooperation between Markem and the OEMs the world over.
The quality of contacts at the fair also bears witness to the interest of the market for integrated solutions (products and services) as against single coders. An approach Markem has been following for years, according to the “Product Identification Solutions” concept: find the coding and information management system suited to the specific needs of the customer, from primary packaging up to the pallet, also providing broad choice for RFID. These in particular were the solutions highlighted at Düsseldorf.
• SmartDate® 5/5s heat transfer coders: ideal for coding on flexible film and for applications in the snack, confectionery, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, bakery products and frozen food sector.
• 5200 resin jet coders for cartons: they enable the printing of 100% readable barcodes, wording, information in real time and high resolution images directly in line, for application on boxes and secondary packaging. Usable substrates include glossy and other types of cardboard, cases, stiff plastic, flexible film and heatshrink film.
• Cimjet®: label print/apply systems; they print and apply pressure sensitive labels on boxes, cartons and pallets. Their sturdy and longlasting structure as well as compact design, guarantees reliability and reduction of downtime.
• SmartLase® coders: low power digital laser systems (10-30 W), CO2, that enable the attainment of clean, permanent and immediate coding. Respectful of the environment, compact and simple to install, they can be integrated in primary packaging lines for marking cases, labels, plastics and other special applications.
• Applied Intelligence™ for the Supply Chain: these RFID solutions include machines, software and services for automatic coding and the application of RF tags at production line speeds, plus integration and handling of EPC data.
Umettatrici
Durante la scorsa Interpack, Imballaggi PK (Vigevano, PV) ha raggiunto un accordo con il partner tedesco Hade Heinrich Dornseifer per la distribuzione (in esclusiva per l’Italia) dei prodotti Better Packages®, di cui Hade è esclusivista per l’Europa continentale. La gamma delle umettatrici BP comprende due modelli semiautomatici per carta gommata, e quattro elettronici, adatti a soddisfare tutte le esigenze di chiusura dei cartoni; queste umettatrici, di fatto, rappresentano la soluzione più semplice ed economica per garantire chiusure “tamper evident”, perfette e sicure. L’americana Better Packages, lo ricordiamo, è un punto di riferimento nel settore delle umettatrici per carta gommata; a completamento della propria offerta, sta ora introducendo sul mercato alcuni nuovi distributori per nastro adesivo. Presto, dopo un accurato collaudo presso clienti statunitensi, sarà inoltre disponibile la versione definitiva del Better Bagger 900e™ (l’avevamo vista all’Ipack-Ima 2003, ancora in fase sperimentale), una macchina per produrre sacchetti di PLT su misura.
Dampening machines
During last Interpack, Imballaggi PK (Vigevano, PV) reached an agreement with its German partner Hade Heinrich Dornseifer for the distribution (with exclusive rights for Italy) for its Better Packages®, products, for which Hade holds exclusive rights for continental Europe. The range of BP dampeners includes two semiautomatic models for gummed paper, and four electronic ones, suited to all carton closure needs; these dampeners in fact constitute the simplest and most economic solution for guaranteeing perfect and safe tamper evident closures. The US concern Better Packages is a benchmark in the gummed paper dampener segment; to complete its range it is now introducing some new adhesive tape distributors. After intense testing at a US customer’s, the definitive version of Better Bagger 900e™ (seen at Ipack-Ima 2003 while still in its experimental stage) will also be available, a machine for producing made to measure PLT bags.

Presente a Düsseldorf con una ricca gamma di etichettatrici e sistemi di lettura per l’RFID, Sato si è proposto soprattutto come un partner/consulente capace di informare e sostenere il proprio cliente con soluzioni personalizzate e chiavi in mano, garantendo altresì un servizio accurato di progettazione e assistenza. In concerto con il proprio interlocutore, infatti, Sato svolge le seguenti attività: analisi delle reali necessità del cliente; progettazione dell’intero sistema di etichettatura RFID e tracciabilità (sia come struttura aggiuntiva e indipendente, sia da integrare con i sistemi già esistenti); confronto dei costi/benefici con ipotesi diverse (frequenza, lettura/scrittura o solo lettura), condizioni ambientali e conformità a normative differenti; scelta dei materiali più adatti (tipo di inchiostro, antenna, lettore, supporto…); integrazione passo dopo passo con i sistemi precedenti e test di funzionalità continui; addestramento del personale; messa in opera e assistenza continuata, per risolvere e prevenire qualsiasi criticità.
Radiofrequency experts
Present at Düsseldorf with a rich range of labelers and RFID reading systems, Sato aboveall offers itself as a partner/consultant capable of informing and supporting its customers with personalised and turnkey solutions, also guaranteeing a sophisticated design and assistance service. Along with the customer, Sato in fact carried out the following activities: analysis of the real needs of the customer; design of the entire RFID and track&trace system (both as an additional and independent structure as well as integrated with existing systems); comparison of costs/benefits with different approaches (frequency, reading/writing or only reading), environmental conditions and conformity to the relevant standards; choice of the most suited materials (type of ink, antenna, reader, support…); step-by-step integration with preceding systems and ongoing functional testing ; personnel training; start-up and ongoing assistance, this to solve and prevent any problems arising.
Etichettatura, un cuore elettronico
PRINT & APPLY Printess 4 e Printess 6 sono i nuovi modelli dell’offerta Eidos: due soluzioni “aperte”, predisposte anche alla scrittura di etichette RFID, che si distinguono per l’elettronica raffinata.
Un sincero entusiasmo, motivato dalla consapevolezza del proprio livello tecnologico e dalle buone risposte del mercato, è forse la sensazione più forte che abbiamo colto visitando lo stand di Eidos, l’azienda di Chieri (TO) specializzata in print & apply per colli e pallet, stampanti termiche dirette e a trasferimento termico su film, e infine software di gestione per codificatori ed etichettatrici.
«La nostra soddisfazione - conferma al riguardo il titolare, Franco Tabasso - sta nell’aver saputo mettere a frutto le molte opportunità che stanno interessando il comparto dell’etichettatura, vivacizzato soprattutto dall’introduzione delle normative europee in merito alla rintracciabilità. Noi, tuttavia, non abbiamo semplicemente “aspettato” che arrivassero le richieste: al contrario, ci siamo mossi con determinazione per studiare in modo accurato i bisogni specifici legati a ogni singola applicazione, ed elevare ulteriormente l’affidabilità e le prestazioni delle nostre proposte».
L’ammiraglia print & apply
Sotto i riflettori di Interpack, in particolare, Eidos ha presentato la serie G5 delle stampanti Eidos Printess 4 e Printess 6 (larghezza di stampa rispettivamente di 4” e 6” e passaggio carta di 120 e 180 mm) con applicazione automatica delle etichette.
«La Printess 6 (foto), vera e propria “ammiraglia” della nostra gamma - spiega Tabasso - alloggia rolle di etichette con diametro di 35 cm e ribbon lunghi 1000 m».
La G5, ossia la “quinta generazione” in oltre vent’anni di produzione di print & apply, si distingue per il display grafico a colori, dotato di touch screen interattivo e di serie su tutti i modelli.

Le nuove Printess 4 e 6 si distinguono infine per la predisposizione alla scrittura di etichette in RFID in uno dei tre standard esistenti: queste etichette con transponder incorporato sono leggibili in radiofrequenza a 13,56 o 868 o 915 Mhz. L’introduzione dell’ultima generazione delle Printess, si badi, non significa l’abbandono dei modelli precedenti: le Printess 120 e Printess 180, al contrario, sono ancora disponibili sul mercato, con un interessante rapporto qualità/prezzo.
Labeling, an electronic heart
PRINT & APPLY - The new models on offer by Eidos are the Printess 4 and Printess 6: two “open” solutions, also capable of writing RFID labels, that stand out for their refined electronics.
A sincere enthusiasm motivated by the awareness of their technological level and the good market response was the strongest sensation we picked up visiting the Eidos stand. Eidos, based at Chieri (TO), is specialised in print & apply for pallets, thermal and heat transfer printers on film as well as administration software for coding machines and labelers.
As proprietor Franco Tabasso states, “Our satisfaction is justified by our ability to exploit the many opportunities that now feature in the labeling sector, aboveall pepped up by the introduction of European standards to encourage traceability.
We have not however simply “sat and waited” for requests to come in: on the contrary, we have striven with determination to study the specific needs of each single application, and to further increase the reliability and performance of our proposals.”
Print & apply flagship
In the spotlight at Interpack is Eidos’ new G5 series of Printess 4 and Printess 6 printers (with label widths of 4” and 6” and paper feed of 120 and 180 mm respectively) with automatic label application.
“The Printess 6 (photo), the real “flagship” of our range,” Tabasso explains, “takes rolls of labels 35 cm in diameter and ribbons 1000 m in length.”
The G5, i.e. the “fifth generation” in over twenty years of print & apply production, stands out for its graphic color display with interactive touchscreen fitted as standard on all models.
“With regard to the characteristics of the Printess 4 and Printess 6,” Tabasso continues, “we must mention the wireless connection, and also the serial Rs232, USB and Ethernet connection; and interface with the Easycode label creation program, which by the way is no longer via floppy disk, but via the more capacious and much handier USB memories.
Other basic functions include the heads, all working at 12 dots/mm (300 dpi) and at high speed.”
The new Printess 4 and 6 printers are also remarkable for their ability to write RFID labels using one of the three existing standards: these labels with an incorporated transponder can be read using radio frequency at 13.56, 868 or 915 Mhz.
The introduction of the new generation of Printess printers does not however mean that the previous versions have had to be abandoned: the Printess 120 and Printess 180 continue to be available on the market at an interesting price/quality ratio.

A page cutter for coupons and gadgets
MiniWhizzy is the new coupons and gadgets distributor of the Etipack pager cutter family, conceived for use in line. Compact and versatile, thanks to its special turning device it can distribute a broad range of products, from coupons, instruction sheets, CDs, information booklets and other articles with a thickness of up to 10 mm, inside bundles, boxes or other types of packs. Its new continuous current motor ensures high production rates that can reach 250 pcs/min. It can be easily integrated within any packaging line, in that the accessories it is equipped with enable simple, accurate and speedy positioning; as well as that, MiniWhizzy can dispense products horizontally or, at a slight slant, vertically, depending on production requirements; the presence of an encoder enables synchronization of the distribution speed (that reaches up to 70 m/min) to that of the line speed, guaranteeing the product is correctly inserted inside the pack.

Tiara CML ha presentato a Interpack Tiara 300 BandIT, etichettatrice per pallet di nuova concezione. Il sistema è infatti dotato di un particolare dispositivo, in grado di effettuare - in un’unica operazione - fasciatura ed etichettatura del pallet (anche sui quattro lati). Una volta impostato formato e testo da stampare dal software Tiara Design, l’etichettatrice svolge il film, su cui si sono stampate le informazioni richieste, intorno al pallet in transito, fasciandolo ed “etichettandolo” al tempo stesso. Il tutto a una velocità di stampa fino a 400 mm/s (175 pal/h), con risoluzione 12 dot/mm (300 dpi), lunghezza di stampa da 5 a 1000 mm e larghezza pari a 106, 127 e 160 mm. Il film (PELD bianco) impiegato per fasciare ed etichettare il pallet è fornito in bobine di altezza variabile da 70 a 190 mm, e lunghezza fino a 1700 m.
Labeling and binding for pallets
Tiara CML presented at Interpack Tiara 300 BandIT, a new concept labeler for pallets. The system is fitted with a special device, capable of performing - in a sole operation - binding and labeling of the pallet (even on four sides). Once the format and the wording to be printed has been set by the Tiara Design software, the labeling machine winds the film, on which the required information is printed around the pallet in transit, binding it and “labeling” it at the same time.
In all at a print speed up to 400 mm/s (175 pal/h), with 12 dot (300 dpi) resolution, print length from 5 to 1000 mm and width of 106, 127 and 160 mm. The film (white PELD) used to bind and label the pallet is provided in rolls of variable heights of 70 to 190 mm, and lengths of up to 1700 m.
Etichettatura no limits

Labeling no limits
With more than thirty years of business in the labeling and packaging sector, PMR has become quite an authority with a respectable share of the market, having focussed essentially on the reliability, innovation and quality of its products. As well as a range that changes to suit the users' varying needs: hence PMR in recent years hasn't just offered its standard machines, but has also increased its design and construction of "special" solutions to satisfy its customers' need to optimise production costs.
