Grazia Gabbini nasce a Milano, dove vive e lavora. Dopo il diploma all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, segue i corsi di Mario Raciti alla scuola di Arti Visive di Pavia.
Nel 1994 partecipa alla mostra itinerante “Le petit Prince” (Milano, Parigi, New York) ed espone alla Galleria A&Z, che ospita la mostra a tre “Beltrami, Bertonazzi, Gabbini”. Viene invitata a “Astrazione in Lombardia”, al Museo della Permanente di Milano dove, nel 1996, partecipa anche al Premio San Carlo Borromeo, a cura di L. Caramel, M. De Stasio, e F. Tedeschi.
È del ’98 la personale “L’orma del colore” (Galleria Il Triangolo Nero di Alessandria), mentre nel ’99 realizza la mostra/installazione “L’antro della Sibilla” allo Studio D’Ars, Milano.
Sempre a Milano espone in “Carte” presso lo spazio mostre del Museo Permanente. Nel 2002 espone a “Per amore - Quindici anni di scelte a Palazzo Sarcinelli” di Conegliano, a cura di M. Goldin.
Nel 2004 allestisce le personali “Della materia di cui sono fatti i sogni” (Galleria Starter, Milano) e “Dissonanze” (Galleria Punto Arte, Modena).
Hanno detto di lei
[…] Da anni l’artista conduce con tenacia e rigore una ricerca appartata e consapevole. I suoi collages di carta e pigmenti nascono amalgamando carte veline, carte giapponesi, carte riciclate e carte da giornale, accorpandole con il colore.
[…] In questi lavori elastici e resistenti, la materia è colta in un istante del suo incessante divenire, esprimendo un senso di sedimentazione e ora anche di affrancamento.
[…] È attraverso un paziente lavoro di sovrapposizioni e macerazioni, in cui anche il caso svolge la sua parte, che Grazia Gabbini trasforma la carta in una sorta di pelle, quella che lei chiama “la pelle della pittura”.
[…] L’ultimo capitolo della sua sperimentazione, sempre nell’ambito di una dialettica gravità-levità, si è schiuso con l’utilizzo di altri materiali di recupero. Sacchetti del pane e scatole di cartone vengono trasformate in soffici nidi che abbracciano frammenti di memoria, amorevoli custodi di sogni e paure.

Grazia Gabbini was born in Milan where she lives and works. After taking her diploma at the Brera Art Academy she attended the courses held by Mario Raciti at the Scuola di Arti Visive, Pavia.
In 1994 she took part in the traveling show “Le petit Prince” (Milan, Paris, New York) and displayed her work at the Galleria A&Z in the three-man show ““Beltrami, Bertonazzi, Gabbini”.
In 1996 she was invited to take part in “Astrazione in Lombardia” at the Museo della Permanente, Milan, she also took part in the San Carlo Borromeo Award organized by L. Caramel, M. De Stasio, and F. Tedeschi.
Her one-woman show “The traces of color” (Galleria Il Triangolo Nero, Alessandria) is dated 1998, while in ’99 she created a show/installation “The antro of Sybil” at the Studio D’Ars, Milan.
In Milan she also exhibited in “Carte” in the Museo Permanente exhibition space. In 2002 she exhibited at “For love - Fifteen years of choice at Palazzo Sarcinelli”, Conegliano, organized by M. Goldin.
In 2004 she staged her one-woman show “Such stuff as dreams are made of”, (Galleria Starter, Milan) and “Dissonances” (Galleria Punto Arte, Modena).
It has been said of her
[…] For years the artist has been tenaciously pursuing a conscious and solitary quest. Her collages of paper and pigments are born out of the amalgamation of tissue paper, Japanese paper, recycled paper and newspaper, amalgamated by color.
[…] In these elastic but sturdy works, matter is caught in an instant of its incessant evolution, expressing a sense of sedimentation and now even a sense of deliverance.
[…] Through a painstaking work of overlaying and steeping, where chance plays its part, Grazia Gabbini transforms paper into a sort of skin, what she calls “the skin of painting”.
[…] The latest chapter of her experimentary work, that still falls within a lightness-heaviness dialectic, opens with the use of other recovered materials.
Bread bags and cardboard boxes are turned into soft nests that embrace fragments of memory, loving custodians of dreams and fears.
