Forma, spazio e superficie
Turi Simeti nasce ad Alcamo, in provincia di Trapani, nel 1929.
Vive e lavora a Milano, dove ha maturato alcune delle esperienze più significative del suo percorso artistico (fra cui l’inserimento nel progetto “Zero Avantgarde”, che ha la sua prima uscita nel 1965 nello studio di Lucio Fontana). Innumerevoli le mostre, collettive e personali, allestite in importanti gallerie di tutto il mondo.
[…] Ragione e fantasia si combinano in modo compiutamente equilibrato nelle realizzazioni di Turi Simeti. Il dato prevalente nel suo lavoro è indubbiamente quello del rigore, di una coerenza incontestabile, che lo rende riconoscibile e conseguente da quasi quarant’anni, in uno sviluppo che si è permesso pochissimi scarti da una regola gradualmente conquistata, almeno per il dato immediato, legato al processo e alla sua fisica presenza.
Regola, rigore e coerenza non arrestano l’azione del creare su moduli definiti una volta per tutte, incontrovertibili, ma sono resi attivi, pur all’interno di un codice e di un linguaggio specifici, per sperimentare le molteplici sonorità infinite.
[…] La “sequenza” all’interno della quale la proposta di Simeti su forma, luce e spazio trova la sua naturale, anche se libera, collocazione, corrisponde a quell’indagine, fondamentale per molta arte del Novecento, rivolta a una nuova configurazione dell’arte in rapporto allo spazio, in particolare per quanto riguarda i valori della superficie in sé, che in modo apparentemente paradossale trova impulso dall’esigenza di andare oltre la superficie stessa e che può risolversi in un nuovo modo di formularne l’entità oggettuale.
[…] Gli elementi che divengono costanti nel suo lavoro, pienamente attivi ancor oggi, possono essere raccolti attorno ad alcuni motivi principali: il valore della monocromia e, attraverso il colore, dell’incidenza della luce; il rapporto tra oggetto, volume e forma; la disposizione nello spazio, o la creazione dello spazio, attraverso i singoli interventi. Shape, space and surface
Turi Simeti was born in Alcamo, in the province of Trapani, in 1929.
Currently he lives and works in Milan, where he has gained some of this most significant artistic experiences (among which his taking part in the “Zero Avantgarde” project, that had its first showing in 1965 in the Lucio Fontana studio).
He has held numerous collective and personal shows in important galleries the world over.
[…] Reason and fantasy co-exist in a completely equilibrated manner in the creations of Turi Simeti.
The predominant datum in his work is undoubtedly a rigor, an indisputable coherence, which has consistently distinguished him for almost forty years, throughout a development that has rarely swerved from a rule that has been mastered by degrees, at least as far as the immediate datum, linked to the process and its physical presence, is concerned.
Rule, rigor and coherence do not arrest the creative development based on modules that have been defined once and for all, incontrovertibly, but that are activated, even if within a specific code and language, to experiment the great variety of possible solutions and inventions, that animate the work, in its essence of space and form, to the point of making, it assume infinite resonances.

of Twentieth Century art, aimed
at a new configuration of art in relation to space, in particular as far as the values os surfaces as such are concerned, something which in an apparently paradoxical manner is inspired by a need to go beyond the surface itself, and may be accomplished through a new way to formulate its objectual entity.
[…] The elements which have become constants in his work, and which are still fully active today, may be grouped according to some principal motifs: the value of the monochromy and, through color, the incidence of the light; the relationship between projection, volume and form; the arrangement in space, or the creation of space, through the single interventions.[…]
