Contenitori e filtri - L'artista svizzera Barbara Fässler opera nei confronti del "vedere" un "toglimento" e una restituzione. Da un lato, tutti i colori, nelle sue fotografie e nelle sue installazioni, sono costretti a diventare uno solo, un colore dominante che risucchia tutti gli altri: giallo, blu, rosso, verde... Con quest'operazione è come se l'artista scomponesse quella quadricromia che è la realtà così-come-ci-appare nei suoi elementi fondamentali: ciano, magenta, giallo, e ci spingesse a provare l'esperienza di essere insieme daltonici e schizofrenici.
Così facendo però Barbara Fässler ci restituisce non una visione distorta, ma una percezione più alta, "fotosofica" del mondo: i suoi filtri colorati infatti trattengono solo le impurità, le scorie del vedere, e ci restituiscono l'essenza di uno sguardo capace di trasformare anche un misero catino di plastica o un mucchio di rifiuti gettati a caso "nella più alta armonia".
Barbara Fässler, nata a Zurigo nel 1963, lavora con la fotografia, il video e l’installazione. Ha iniziato la sua attività espositiva nel 1990 e è stata co-curatrice del ProjektRaum, spazio per l’arte contemporanea a Zurigo. Insegna all’Accademia Carrara di Belle Arti di Bergamo.
Containers and filters - The Swiss artist Barbara Fässler works on "seeing", enacting both a process of "removal" as well as one of restitution. On the one hand, all the colors in her photographs as well as in her installations, are forced into becoming a single dominant color that sucks in all the others: yellow, blue, red, green... With this operation it is as if the artist were breaking down that four color process that is reality as it appears to us in its fundamental elements: cyan, magenta, yellow, and thrusting us towards the experience of being color blind and schizophrenic at the same time. Doing thus though Barbara Fässler does not render us a distorted vision of things, but rather she renders a higher, "photosophic" vision of the world: her colored filters in fact only withhold the impurities, the chaff of seeing, and restore to us the essence of a gaze capable also of transforming a miserable plastic bucket or an arbitrary pile of waste "into the highest harmony".
Barbara Fässler, born in Zurich in 1963, works with photography, video, and installations. She started to exhibit in 1990, and has been co-curator at ProjektRaum, artist-run space in Zurich. She is teacher at the Carrara Academy of Fine Arts in Bergamo.
