La parola all’autore - Nella serie “Ai confini della realtà”, i telefilm che negli anni Sessanta venivano trasmessi la domenica sera, ce n’era uno in cui un astronauta tornava a casa dopo una missione nello spazio. Per un qualche incidente, che preannunciava la risoluzione non proprio tranquilla del viaggio, approdava in una realtà del tutto simile a quella lasciata alla partenza, tranne in qualche particolare: la diversa lunghezza della staccionata, un numero maggiore di gradini alla porta d’ingresso, forse una diversa chiazzatura del pelo del cane.
In effetti, era sbarcato su un altro pianeta, senza omini verdi né tecnologie futuribili, un luogo dove le differenze fra la realtà e ciò che sta ai suoi confini non erano eccessive né plateali, soltanto un lieve rimescolio delle apparenze ne caratterizzava l’identità, come se un’entropia di basso profilo avesse perturbato la familiarità delle cose, rendendo più inquieta l’intimità con esse.
“Andata e ritorno” è un “work in progress” cominciato nel 1995/96 e al momento raggruppa un centinaio di confezioni rifatte in scala reale con tela trattata (epossidica bicomponente) e dipinta (colori acrilici).
Un’anomalia sopravvenuta durante la ricostruzione della fustella devia il processo di mimesi e i loghi finiscono sui volumi sbagliati, estraniandoli dal rapporto d’identità col modello originale
Le immagini vivono in superficie, se hanno un’anima risiede nella loro pelle, staccare la pelle dalle cose è possederne l’anima che potrebbe abitarle; dislocarla sul corpo sbagliato è un sintomo, luogo del difficile scambio dentro/fuori, di una temporalità fuori sincrono.
Antonio De Pascale, nasce a Crispano in provincia di Napoli, dove si è diplomato in pittura all’Accademi di Belle Arti. Ha esposto in molte città italiane ed europee, sia in spazi pubblici che gallerie private. Vive e lavora fra Padova e Milano (dove ha in preparazione per l’autunno una nuova mostra personale presso la galleria Giancarla Zanutti).
The word to the author - In “Twilight Zone” - the TV serial which was broadcast on Sunday evenings in the Sixties - there was one episode where an astronaut returned home after a mission in space.
Due to some sort of accident, which portended a turbulent end to his voyage, he landed in a place identical to the one he had left behind apart from a few details: the fence was a different size, there were more steps leading up to the front door, the dog’s fur had different markings. In fact he had landed on another planet, without any little green men or futuristic technology, a place where the differences between reality and the twilight zone were neither excessive nor blatant. Just a slight distortion in appearances characterised it, as though a low level entropy had made it strange and unfamiliar.
“Andata e ritorno” is a “work in progress” begun in 1995/96 and at present consisting of approximately one hundred packs remade full scale on treated canvases (bicomponent epoxy) and painted (acrylic paints). An anomaly which came up during the reconstruction of the die deflects the process of mimesis and the logos end up on the wrong volumes, estranging them from their relationship of identity with the original model.
The images are seen on the surfaces, if they have a soul it resides in their skin, removing the skin from things means possessing the soul which might live there; placing it on the wrong body is a symptom, the locus of a difficult internal/external exchange, an out of sync temporality.
Antonio De Pascale was born at Crispano in the province of Naples, where he took his diploma in painting at the Academy of Fine Art. He has exhibited in many Italian and European cites, both in public spaces and in private galleries. He lives and works between Padua and Milan (where in Autumn is going to be organized a new personal exhibition at the Giancarla Zanutti gallery).
